‘History’s challenge to us to affirm the value of the democracy we savor today’ — VP Duterte

CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan — “History’s challenge to us is to affirm the value of the democracy we savor today. We can only do this if we remain loving our country and uniting with one desire, one purpose and one dream. We can only do this if we think that we are united as one. Since the Malolos Congress opened, we have come a long way as a nation. We also experienced many hardships; typhoons, earthquakes, pandemic but we have not stopped and we will not stop.”

This was Vice President Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio’s message during the 124th Anniversary of the Opening of Malolos Congress spearheaded by the Provincial History, Arts, Culture and Tourism Office together with the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) held at the historic grounds of Barasoain Church on Thursday (Sept. 15).

As the guest of honor, VP Duterte-Carpio led the wreath laying rites in front of the monument of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo witnessed by Bulacan Governor Daniel R. Fernando, Vice Governor Alexis C. Castro, NHCP Chairman Dr. Rene R. Escalante, and City of Malolos Mayor Christian Natividad.

In his message, Fernando said that as the inheritors of this congress, it is also a challenge to the Filipinos to be worthy of all the democracy we have today.

The event was also attended by the officials of the Provincial Government of Bulacan, department heads, Department of Education District Superintendents and supervisors, representatives from NHCP, NGOs, and NGAs.

The Malolos Congress was first established on September 15, 1989, to draw a constitution for the First Philippine Republic led by Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo. It strengthened the First Philippine Constitution that led to the proclamation of the Philippine Independence on July 12, 1898. (RONDA BALITA Online)
